Deb Jospin


Deborah (Deb) Jospin has led strategic planning and board development processes, provided strategic advice and developed new initiatives for dozens of public and private sector clients, including:

Along with her former business partner Shirley Sagawa, Deb is the co-author of The Charismatic Organization: Eight Ways to Grow a Nonprofit that Builds Buzz, Delights Donors and Engages Employees, Jossey-Bass, 2008. 

Before starting her consulting career, Deb worked as an attorney in private practice.  In 1993, she joined the Corporation for National Service (CNCS), the federal agency that oversees AmeriCorps. After serving as Associate General Counsel and Chief of Staff, Deb was appointed Director of AmeriCorps by President Clinton in 1997, a position she held until the end of the Clinton Administration in 2001. Deb has continued to support national service, both in her consulting practice and as a volunteer. In 2008, she was a member of the Obama/Biden Agency Review Team, reviewing CNCS. Most recently, she was a member of the Biden/Harris Transition Team, serving as the Appointments Team Lead for the Service and the Arts Cluster. Deb is a founding board member of the Service Year Alliance, ServeNext, AmeriCorps Alums, and the Center for Music National Service.  Currently, she serves on the board of Safe Shores, the D.C. Children’s Advocacy Center.

Deb is a 1980 graduate of Tufts University. She earned an MSc in Public Policy from the London School of Economics in 1983 and a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1989.

When Tufts University created the University College of Citizenship and Public Service (UCCPS) in 1999, Deb became a founding member of its Board. From 2007-2015, she served as the Chair of the Board of what is now known as the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life. From 2002-2018, she also served as a Trustee of Tufts, chairing the Board’s Committee on Trusteeship and its Council of Boards of Advisors, and serving on its Executive Committee. In 2009, Deb received the Light on the Hill Award, the highest honor that the undergraduate student body bestows on Tufts alumni.
